Abdul Hassan was an Afghan refugee. He was a member of the Hazara people and the son of Karim Hassan. Alex Rider later assumed the identity of Abdul in Snakehead.

Abdul lived in the city Mazar-i-Sharif in the Balkh province of Afghanistan with his father, Karim. They had a business there, which they sold. They then used the money to pay the Snakehead to smuggle them away.
