Helen Rider is the mother of Alex Rider and wife to John Rider. She worked as a doctor when she met John Rider and the two eventually married. She gave birth to a son, Alex shortly thereafter. Helen was killed when her husband's longtime friend, Ash planted a bomb on the plane she was taking to France with John. Alex was not present at the detonation as e had an earache and was staying with his grandmother.
